The Toledo Zoo
Phase I of the Master Plan 2020 Project

Bostleman has been selected to manage the first phase of the Toledo Zoo’s Master Plan 2020 project.  Phase I includes three major projects funded through a 1 mil. tax levy approved by the voters of Lucas County in November of 2006.  The projects include:

North Visitor and Administrative Parking Improvements
This project includes an expansion of the Zoo’s main visitor parking lot by nearly 800 spaces, relocation of the ticket booths, and expansion of the current employee parking lot to account for the Zoo’s 330 hourly part-time and seasonal employees.  In addition, as part of the Zoo’s commitment to “green” technology, a significant amount of the energy required for the ticket booths will be provided by new solar panels and a wind turbine.

New Children’s Zone
The new Children’s Zone includes a revitalized and expanded Children’s Zone, which will make this area of the Zoo a year-round experience for the guests while giving the Zoo the opportunity to maximize programming and educational programming.  This area will create an environment for family interaction, create a play-based conservation learning environment for children, and create an environment for basic animal appreciation.

Elephant/Rhino/Hippo Renovations
The Toledo Zoo has designated elephants and rhinos as priority species for breeding to aid the in the species preservation.  To accomplish this, the Zoo’s current indoor/outdoor facilities will be enhanced and enlarged to meet the American Zoo & Aquarium Association’s requirements for breeding.  Work will include separate bull and cow facilities and yards as well as the ability to combine both yards.  New and expanded viewing areas will be provided, as well as enrichment and training features.
